Deflector Shield of the Day: NASA has commissioned the Cessna Aircraft Company to create a protective layer from a super-thin foam that would help aircraft withstand lightning, extreme climate, electromagnetic interference, and asteroid fields.

Just kidding about the asteroid fields, but, seriously, researchers say we’re at least 20 to 25 years off from a totally self-healing airplane. So, until then, shields up.
